Use observations and water measurements to decide the next step after heavy rain.
Check the pond after a change in weather
For coastal Andhra Pradesh shrimp ponds and freshwater fish ponds in Telangana, keep an observation record before and after heavy rain. Rain can change temperature, dissolved oxygen and pH; appearance alone cannot show whether the water is suitable.
Make a short observation round
- Note the time, rainfall, fish or shrimp behaviour and feed response.
- Check aerators, power supply, inlet screens and drainage.
- Look for overflow, damaged pond banks or runoff entering from nearby land.
- Measure dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature with working instruments. For brackish-water ponds, check salinity too.
Respond to the measurements
If fish gasp at the surface or animals show sudden distress, operate appropriate aeration and contact a fisheries adviser promptly. Report the measurements, species, pond size, culture stage and recent treatments. Decisions about water exchange or treatment depend on the pond and source-water conditions.
Keep the next decision traceable
Record advice received, actions taken and follow-up readings. Ask for a diagnosis before selecting an input. Any product must be suitable for that pond and used according to its actual label; do not copy a dose from another farm.
